This mailing list discusses aspects of markup for text-to-speech
(TTS) engines.
This mailing list grown out of the Sable
mailing list which in has history in STML (spoken text markup
language) and SSML (speech synthesis markup language). There
is also strong relations with JSML (Java Speech Markup Language).
All of these markup language are based on SGML/XML formats,
though this list is not necessarily restrcited to SGML/XML
markup languages.
Sable has been implemented in both Edinburgh University's Festival
Speech Synthesis System and the Bell Labs TTS
engine. But is designed to be easily implemented in any TTS
engine to given a general standard markup language to be used
accross different TTS engines and platforms.
